Hermetica could be about the difficulty to communicate with (and between) others. The title of this painting plays on the different meanings granted to the term hermetic. The fact that it is densely filled with intricate figures, a large face/character composed by other entities, can make it complicated for the viewer to look at it and even understand the painting. This can therefore make it “hermetic”.
However, it has things to communicate, it harbors its own language and message, which remains secret for many, so it is the other meaning of the word hermetic that is illustrated here.
Just as in the phenomenon of Life, there are things which seem mysterious to us as long as we are not initiated. To discover them seems to me to be important and exciting.
