Its title Calathea is greek to say “turning the page”. In this painting, it means, states of minds, experiences, are never definitive, just pages we turn so we can move on towards a better version of our self. It felt like a pretty cryptic painting to me at first and asked some time of observation time to understand it (at least one of its possible meaning).
All around the main characters are a bunch of primitive entities as their background companions. But the painting turns around those four big human-like people. The blue one on the left is a sort of incarnation of a inner Soul coming from the star-filled space, the Sun above its head and a flower in its hand, like the promise of future seeds of life. Next to him the blonde character has its totemic white wolf on her head, eyes closes, connected through thought the blue inner-Soul as the expressive tear shows. Expressing out of her mouth an intense fog like when the constellations are forming, an allegory of new wolds, creating thanks to new ever-connected thoughts. On the right of the painting, there’s like an superior Soul depicted. Blue hair & lines echoing the idea of the universal Source. A Caring hand put on the totemic wolf to spread its wisdom into the introspective human. In the middle, this green demon is having an astral kiss with this Universal Soul, balancing the forces of the worlds. Enclosing the blue character with a long snake like arm, reminder of the passions even our higher-self can be the prey of.
Son titre Calathea est un terme grec signifiant “tourner la page”. Dans ce tableau, c’est en lien avec les états d’esprit, les expériences, qui ne seraient jamais définitifs, juste des pages que nous tournons afin de pouvoir avancer vers une meilleure version de nous-mêmes. C’était une peinture assez cryptique pour moi au début et demanda un certain temps d’observation pour la comprendre (au moins une de ses significations possibles).
Tout autour des personnages principaux se trouve un groupe d’entités primitives tels des compagnons d’arrière-plan. Mais le tableau tourne autour de ces quatre grands personnages humanoïdes. Le bleue à gauche est une sorte d’incarnation d’une Âme intérieure venue de l’espace étoilé, le Soleil au-dessus de sa tête et une fleur à la main, comme la promesse de futures graines de vie. À côté de lui, le personnage blond paré de son loup blanc totémique sur la tête, les yeux fermés, connecté par la pensée à l’âme intérieure bleue, comme le montre une larme expressive. Exhalant de sa bouche un brouillard intense comme lorsque les constellations se forment, une allégorie de nouveaux mondes, se créant grâce à de nouvelles pensées toujours connectées. À droite du tableau, il y a comme une âme plus supérieure encore. Cheveux & lignes bleus faisant écho à l’idée de la Source universelle qui s’écoule entre tout et tous. Une main bienveillante posée sur le loup totémique pour répandre sa sagesse chez l’humain introspectif. Au milieu, ce démon vert partage un baiser astral avec cette âme universelle, équilibrant les forces des mondes. Enserrant le personnage bleu avec un long bras semblable à un serpent, rappel des passions dont même notre moi supérieur peut être la proie.
